This past weekend, Chicago's Lollapalooza brought the 'Art Alliance: The Provocateurs' Art Exhibit to town. The Provocateurs was hosted by Shepard Fairey of Obey Giant , one of my favorite artists. Many big name artists from around the world made stage at the Block Thirty Seven Building in the Chicago Loop. Big names such as Swoon, HAZE, Mark Mothersbaugh, Stanley Donwood, Winston Smith, RETNA, Monica Canilao, Invader, DZINE, Camile Rose Garcia, Cleon Peterson, D*Face and WK Interact, were on exhibit, to name a few... It was a great display of powerful & inspiring pieces. There could not have been a better day to be around good friends, art, drinks, & Big Star Tacos. Caught on film with my 35mm canon.
I am trying to catch up on more reading. I added three titles to my summer reading list. I have had these books on the back burner for a while but haven't found a better opportunity to start reading until now. Lately , with great weather, it's harder to spend that time indoors.
If this doesn't make you want to live in Michigan then I just don't know what : p
Snap Judgement is an incredible storytelling show on NPR that is broadcast out of Michigan. If you're a fan of storytelling or This American Life check this guy out! It's storytelling with a beat : )
Recently, we moved to the big BH. It's kind of runt of a town but in the 60's it twas hoping. You can read about it's ups and pretty bad down's here and here. I've heard from quite a few locals that even just five years ago downtown B.H. was dead - not a business in sight and now, starting with the center of the town, the area is going through a rebirth of sorts. Artisan/local food growing restaurants and community outreach art galleries are at the heart of it's rebirth. Benton Harbor is really a gem, and if you're visiting from out of town I encourage you to stop by. These photos are from a book documenting some of the wonderful history that made up this rugged but unforgettable town. Unlike the touristy vibe Saint Joe, New Buffalo, and other neighboring towns share, Benton Harbor's rustic skin and agricultural beauty really make this a special place on the lake. More on BH to come!
